A George II Style Parcel-Gilt Cream Painted Console Table
A George II style parcel-gilt and cream-painted console table, the Rouge Des Pyrenees marble top inset into gilt frame with canted corners, resting on a Greek key carved freize centering a gilded scallop shell issuing lush festooned garlands, the foliate legs decorated with honey-suckle garland and the acanthus clad scrolled feet resting on platforms with gilt gadrooned detail, finished on all four sides.
In it's incorporation of a central scallop shell, boldly carved festoons and Greek key frieze, this console retains the influence of William Kent. However this console is lighter in feel then a Kent design and is perhaps also influenced by Henry Flitcroft. It was fabricated in and purchased from Sweden.
