An Original Marcel Vertes Large-Scale Gouache of Lily Pons
An original gouache by Hungarian/American artist Marcel Vertes of famed Coloratura Soprano Lily Pons (1895-1961), depicted to resemble a trompe l'oeil composition of a portrait being held aloft by putti in the romantic Neo-Baroque style of the 1930s and 1940s. Vertes was the creator of the famous murals in the Cafe Carlyle in the Carlyle Hotel. This illustration is from the estate of Lily Pons- this image was used for a poster announcing a recording from the 1940s issued by Columbia Masterworks. In original carved and giltwood frame with an exhibition label from a Dallas gallery on verso.
